The company has vacancies at its Rumphi Project Site:Job Title: Tellehandler Operator (1)Nature of Contract: One Year Fixed TermDuty Station: RumphiReporting to: Site Manager/Plant & Workshop Manager/Project ManagerDepartment: Plant & Equipment/OperationsJob PurposeTo safely and efficiently operate a telehandler (telescopic handler) to lift, transport, load, and position construction materials, equipment, and supplies on construction sites while ensuring compliance with company safety policies, manufacturer's operating procedures, and applicable occupational health and safety regulations in Malawi.Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate the telehandler safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures.
- Transport, lift, stack, and place construction materials at designated locations.
- Load and unload trucks carrying construction materials and equipment.
- Assist with the movement of pallets, pipes, steel, concrete products, timber, scaffolding, and other construction materials.
- Inspect the telehandler before each shift and complete daily equipment checklists.
- Report mechanical faults, damage, and maintenance requirements promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping of the machine.
- Monitor fuel, hydraulic oil, coolant, and other fluid levels.
- Ensure lifting operations are conducted within the machine's rated load capacity.
- Work closely with banksmen, riggers, supervisors, and other site personnel during lifting operations.
- Observe all site traffic management and safety procedures.
- Avoid damage to company property, utilities, structures, and materials.
- Maintain accurate equipment operating records and daily logbooks.
- Assist with minor preventive maintenance activities where authorized.
- Stop operations immediately if unsafe conditions are identified.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions.
- Perform any other lawful duties assigned by the supervisor.Qualifications & Experience
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.
- Valid Telehandler Operator Certificate from a recognized training institution.
- Valid operator's licence where applicable.
- Additional training in Occupational Health and Safety is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2–3 years' experience operating telehandlers on construction or civil engineering projects.
- Experience handling various construction materials in confined and busy work environments.
- Experience working on large infrastructure or building projects is an added advantage.Knowledge of:
- Safe lifting and material handling techniques.
- Daily equipment inspection procedures.
- Basic preventive maintenance practices.
- Load charts and machine stability principles.
- Construction site safety requirements.
- Emergency procedures and incident reporting.
- Traffic management within construction sites.Skills and Competencies
- Safe equipment operation.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Teamwork and cooperation.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Time management.
