Real Estate Research Intern collecting, analysing, and interpreting real estate market data, requiring a Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Economics, Statistics, or a related discipline with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, in a real estate environment, on-site role.
Main Role
- Assist in collecting, analysing and interpreting real estate market data to support valuation, research, consultancy, property management, investment advisory and business decision-making. The intern will also contribute to the development of market intelligence publications, property briefs and real estate articles that promote thought leadership and enhance the company’s market visibility.
Key Responsibilities
Market Research & Data Collection
- Collect property market data from field surveys, online property platforms, government publications and internal databases.
- Gather information on property sales, rentals, occupancy levels, development activity and market trends.
- Conduct market surveys, property inspections and site visits where required.
- Monitor economic, demographic and regulatory developments affecting the real estate market.
Data Cleaning & Database Management
- Clean, validate and organise collected data to ensure accuracy, consistency and completeness.
- Maintain and update the company’s property market database.
- Assist in digitising and standardising historical property records, valuation evidence and market information.
- Ensure proper documentation and secure storage of research data.
Market Analysis & Reporting
- Analyse market trends, rental movements, property values, yields, vacancy rates and investment performance.
- Prepare summary tables, charts, graphs and dashboards using Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
- Assist in preparing market research reports, sector reports and property market updates.
- Present research findings in a clear and professional manner.
Valuation & Consultancy Support
- Assist in compiling comparable sales, rental and market evidence for valuation assignments.
- Support valuation and consultancy projects through desktop research and market analysis.
- Assist in feasibility studies, highest and best use analyses, investment appraisals and market assessments.
- Provide research support for property management and development consultancy assignments.
Property Intelligence & Content Development
- Research and prepare property briefs, market commentaries and educational articles on real estate topics.
- Develop content for the company’s website, newsletters, blogs and social media platforms.
- Translate market data and research findings into informative and reader-friendly publications.
- Identify emerging market trends and recommend topics for future research and publication.
Research Support & General Responsibilities
- Support ongoing research and data analytics projects within the department.
- Assist in preparing presentations and reports for management and clients.
- Maintain confidentiality of company and client information.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as:
- Real Estate
- Estate Management
- Valuation & Property Management
- Economics
- Statistics
- Data Science
- Or a related discipline
Technical Skills
Research & Data Analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, Lookup Functions, Charts and Data Analysis).
- Ability to collect, organise and analyse market data.
- Basic understanding of statistical analysis.
Property Research
- Understanding of property markets and real estate fundamentals.
- Ability to conduct desktop research and field surveys.
- Appreciation of valuation principles and market evidence.
Data Visualisation
- Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI or similar data visualisation tools.
- Ability to prepare charts, dashboards and presentations.
GIS & Digital Tools
- Basic knowledge of QGIS or ArcGIS will be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with online property research platforms and mapping applications.
Value-Add Skills
- Basic knowledge of SQL or Python.
- Knowledge of data analytics and business intelligence tools.
- Understanding of the Kenyan real estate market.
- Strong research and technical writing skills.

Experience

- Experience using Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Participation in market surveys, research projects or academic publications will be an added advantage.
- Basic exposure to Power BI, GIS, SQL or Python is desirable but not mandatory.
- Previous internship, industrial attachment or volunteer experience in real estate, research, valuation or data analytics will be an added advantage.
