Job Summary
Reporting to the Managing Director & CEO, the job holder is responsible for furthering KenGen’s green energy footprint by maximizing Geothermal resource potential in the country and to provide Geothermal Energy Leadership in Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of Geothermal Developments’ strategies, policies, and procedures to achieve KenGen’s strategic objectives.
- Coordinate and oversee the following divisions: Reservoir and Steam field management; Drilling and Logistics; Civil and Infrastructure, and Resource Assessment and Development.
- Oversee sustainability of KenGen’s power generation through geothermal reservoir optimization and steam availability.
- Oversee construction of geothermal infrastructure including wells and steam pipelines.
- Coordinate with relevant government agencies to align Geothermal projects with national energy policies and strategies.
- Support research and innovations in geothermal technologies in drilling, resource exploitation and Steamfield development.
- Develop business models that make geothermal projects financially viable.
- Collaborate with Universities and research institutions for innovation and research.
- Represent the Company in energy forums and policy discussions for matters Geothermal.
- Explore opportunities for partnerships, external funding and grants to support geothermal projects.
- Co-ordinate and direct preparation of departmental budgets, monitoring and managing the budget, procurement plans, tender preparation and procure within budget
- Prepare geothermal development policy proposals for presentation to the Board.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), occupational health and safety, statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Approve professional opinions within the General Managers threshold.
- Develop and implement safety programs for staff, stakeholders, and security of assets within Geothermal Development Department.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Geochemistry/Geophysics/Physics/Chemistry/ Geomatics/Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Master’s degree in Geology/Geochemistry/Geophysics/Physics/Engineering, Business Administration, Project management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
- Minimum fifteen (15) years in relevant work experience with at least five (5) years in a management role
- Post graduate diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology is an added advantage.
- Membership of the Institute of relevant professional bodies in good standing.
- Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated results in work performance;
- Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the constitution
