Job description
Accountant role at GROOTS Kenya, managing financial operations and donor reporting. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with CPA(K) certification, 3–5 years’ experience in a not-for-profit organization, and experience with donors such as EU, Mastercard Foundation, and UN agencies. Job Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Support budget development, expenditure monitoring, and donor financial reporting.
- Ensure financial records are well maintained, policies adhered to, and internal controls implemented.
- Assist in project and institutional audit preparation and coordinate audit processes.
Accounting & Payments
- Timely and accurate capturing of financial data in the accounting system.
- Preparation of payment vouchers and ensuring that they are supported by the necessary requisitions, budget lines, approvals, and quotations, where applicable.
- Process payments accurately and on time through the Safaricom paybill portal and reconcile weekly.
- Prepare and review bank payments through the GROOTS Kenya bank portal.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of bank statements, petty cash, and imprest accounts.
- Receive all the supporting expenditure for imprest advanced, ensure complete, accurate and quality supporting documentation and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Receive invoices from suppliers, ensure they are invoiced as per the booking/activity, attach all the necessary documentation & present for payment approval.
Financial Reporting & Systems
- Generate monthly management financial reports and donor reports as per requirements.
- Track expenditures in real time against budgets and donor compliance standards.
- Maintain updated and accurate financial databases and supporting documentation.
- Safeguard confidentiality of all financial data and uphold GROOTS Kenya’s financial reputation.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Finance Officer on finance, accounting, procurement, and administration matters.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting Finance, Commerce, or any business related field from a recognized university.
- CPA (K) qualification or equivalent professional certification required
- 3 – 5 years’ relevant experience in a Not for profit organization
- Experience working with donors such as EU, Global Affairs Canada, Mastercard Foundation, WORLD BANK and UN agencies
- Prior experience managing an annual budget of $ 2.0 -4.0 Million
- Experience in using Microsoft Navision
- Proficiency in accounting softwaremostly Ms Excel.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and carry out multiple tasks efficiently under pressure and with little supervision.
