Regional Human Rights Specialist, Africa
Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Rwanda
Job description
Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) seeks a Regional Human Rights Specialist to strengthen rights-based approaches across its African conservation programmes. The role guides country and field teams on human-rights integration, impact and risk analysis, fact-finding when requested, and rights-respecting field procedures. The WCS careers portal lists Rwanda and full-time employment; a related WCS vacancy announcement names Kigali or another WCS Africa hub as the base. This listing uses Kigali, and applicants should confirm their duty station with WCS. Significant travel to remote field sites is required. The on-site classification is inferred from the hub/field responsibilities rather than an express remote-work policy. Apply through WCS’s official careers portal by 30 October 2026; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. No closing time or numeric salary is stated. WCS portal job 925331.
Requirements
Advanced degree in law or another relevant field with a human-rights specialisation; a first degree with relevant experience and certificates may be accepted. At least five years of progressive experience in human-rights advocacy, research, policy, monitoring or reporting; experience with Indigenous Peoples, communities, civil society or government stakeholders in Africa. Fluency in English and professional ability in French are required. Strong analytical, stakeholder-engagement and cross-cultural skills are also sought. See WCS’s original posting for complete requirements.
