Key purpose of role:
The incumbent is responsible for shooting and editing studio links and overlays for Eyewitness News bulletins, and for contributing to live productions when required. The role requires experience in a newsroom environment, where deadlines and editorial objectives must be met while delivering content of exceptional quality that is visually accurate, fair, impartial and completed within the required timeframe. From time to time, the incumbent may be required to work in the field to package video news content for EWN platforms. They will also be required to package daily news videos and explainers, and contribute to feature and documentary projects.
Key performance areas:
Shooting and editing:
Shoot studio links/overlays to in-house style, with correct framing, focus and exposure.Set up and balance lighting for studio shoots to agreed standards.Ensure audio quality is not compromised (levels, clean signal, no distortion).Operate the autocue when required.Edits studio links, inserts and overlays to script, laying timelines accurately and leaving placeholders for late content.Apply appropriate natsound, pacing and visuals to enhance storytelling (including when video is limited).Maintain consistent audio levels and technical quality throughout bulletins/insertsUse Adobe tools (e.g. Photoshop/After Effects) as required for basic graphics/cleanup and visual enhancements.Live productions and fieldwork:
Contribute to live productions as required, responding quickly to late changes and breaking news.Receive/ingest required content for bulletins and manage last-minute story updates.Collaborate with producers/editors on visual approaches that meet editorial objectives (accurate, fair and impartial).Undertake ad hoc fieldwork and where required package video news content, explainers, documentary/features for EWN platforms.Set up and operate cameras and basic livestreaming equipment/software as required.Work effectively in live news situations while meeting safety, quality and deadline requirements.Technical readiness, troubleshooting and asset control:
Transfer, render and deliver footage to specified locations timeously; ensure clean-up of fluffs and correct file management.Troubleshoot common camera/editing/workflow issues and escalate when required.Exercise effective supervision of company assets and ensure equipment readiness for shoots.Workflow improvement, compliance and teamwork:
Contribute to SOPs and streamlining workflows; adapt to newsroom systems and changing production requirements.Apply an understanding of platform requirements (broadcast and social video formats) to deliver fit-for-purpose outputs.Keep up to date with industry trends, platform changes and innovation; identify and suggest improvements to tools, formats and workflows.Share skills and knowledge within the team (e.g. tips, templates, best practices, peer support) to strengthen quality and consistency.Demonstrate collaboration, professionalism and deadline-driven delivery; maintain constructive working relationships
