Basic Salary Scale: Kshs.165,700 – Kshs. 315,000 p.m.
House allowance: Kshs. 35,000

Reporting to: Senior Deputy Director Maritime Education Training
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities entail
Initiating, formulating and implementing institutional policies and strategies related to Maritime Education and Training (MET).
Designing, developing and delivering capacity-building and training programmes in accordance with STCW requirements.
Coordinating the development of instructional materials for training.
Coordinating the development and review of curriculum and syllabus.
Coordinating practical sessions, trade projects and business plan development.
Supervising and mentoring trainers and trainees.
Coordinating the setting, administration and marking of examinations andassessments.
Providing advisory services on training standards and compliance with STCW
Designing staff development programmes in areas of specialization.
Providing necessary liaison between the Academy and clients / industry stakeholders.
Preparing operational and training reports for the school / division.
Appraising staff and coordinating Performance Management in the Division.
Required Qualification
For appointment to this grade, a staff must have
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
Qualifications in accordance with STCW 1978 as amended, i.e., valid Certificate of Competency (CoC):
Second Engineer (III/2)
Chief Mate (II/2).
Approval by Kenya Maritime Authority would be an added advantage.
Cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been at the grade of Senior Principal Trainer II (MET) or in a comparable position.
Competence-Based Assessment certificate from a recognized institution.
Pedagogical skills training certificate from a recognized institution.
Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks will be an added advantage.
Membership of a relevant professional body.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
