We are seeking to recruit a Senior Exploration Geologist to join our Central African Copperbelt team within our regional exploration projects in DRC and Zambia.

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, you will lead a team of geoscientists in the discovery of new Sediment-hosted copper deposits that add value to the company. Design and contribute to the definition, operational control, and execution of exploration work and activities for projects at all stages of the pipeline. Technically evaluate Exploration projects and recommend new business opportunities with potential for the discovery/acquisition of a gold and/or copper deposit that have a significant impact on the company’s growth. Lead and proactively contribute to the technical development of the Project Geologists team in their reporting line through knowledge transfer, training, and motivation for field exploration. Identify young Geologists with potential and interest in professional growth within the company

Responsibilities

Generate, develop, and lead exploration programs at all stages of the exploration pipeline, primarily in the Project Generation and Target Delineation stages of the company’s Resource Triangle
Execute and supervise the development of exploration programs in the field, ensuring the application of best practices in the capture and management of geological data, as well as ensuring compliance with safety standards and relations with local communities near the project
Where required, collaborate with teams involved in Project Generation or New Opportunities (NEO) to evaluate properties and/or advanced exploration projects that represent opportunities for the discovery of a Tier 1 copper deposits for the company
Prepare written reports (internal and external) and presentations of technical visits and progress and season closure reports in English and / or French, including conclusions and recommendations
Be responsible for and ensure the delivery of technical and geological information generated in exploration projects according to the standards and applications required by the Geoinformatics department, as well as demanding the corresponding reports from technical visits to exploration projects carried out by the Technical Team
Ensure direct and timely communication with the Exploration Manager when technical assistance is required in exploration projects or specialized training for their team of geologists through the AME Technical Team
Coordinate with the Sustainability team the implementation of Health and Safety, Environmental, and Community Relations procedures in exploration projects, as well as monitor and verify compliance with these
Ensure that all required permits (internal and external) are obtained on time to complete the planned exploration programs
Support the dissemination and application of advances in geoscientific knowledge among the members of their exploration team and organize learning instances regarding the exploration of mineralized systems
Coordinate with Human Resources the activities of people and talent management. This could include initiating and developing some of the following processes: recruitment and selection, performance evaluations, development plans, coaching, mentoring, among others
Inform and ensure the dissemination to the work team in exploration projects, if necessary, regarding community, safety, health, environment, quality, and risk issues of all kinds

Qualification Requirements

Professional degree in Geology from a University recognised by the state

Experience and Skills Requirements

At least 8 years of experience in base metals mineral exploration. International exploration experience is desirable but not mandatory
Demonstrated technical competence at regional to local scale is essential, with direct application to sediment-hosted copper systems is favourably considered
Experience in orogenic gold, magmatic-hydrothermal (gold and / or copper), SEDEX, VMS systems is beneficial
Experience in planning and executing drilling campaigns (reverse circulation and diamond drilling)
Experience in leadership roles and interdisciplinary work with Health, Safety, Environment, Communities, and permits areas.
Desired skills and knowledge in handling geology software used and applied in company projects, such as Leapfrog, ArcGisPro, Iogas
Intermediate-advanced oral and written English necessary for report preparation and oral presentations
Class B driver’s license, including 4×4 driving course
Leadership ability, motivation for discovery, high teamwork capacity and flexibility, planning/organization capacity
Experience in discoveries and different stages of project development (from generative to advanced projects) will be considered advantages during the application…

About the Team

The Lumwana copper mine is a conventional open pit (truck and shovel) operation. It’s located about 100 kilometers west of Solwezi in Zambia’s Copperbelt — one of the most prospective copper regions in the world. Lumwana ore, which is predominantly sulfide, is treated through a conventional sulfide flotation plant, producing copper concentrate.
