Job description

Agricultural Jobs, Regen Organics Jobs. Responsible for coordinating agricultural field trials, working with farmers, planning crop trials, monitoring field activities, collecting and analysing trial data, evaluating crop performance, and preparing reports on results. Requires a degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences, Crop Science, Agriculture, or a related field. The position is based in Nairobi and requires fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities

Contributing to New & Emerging Approaches

  • Contribute field-level insight to emerging Emerging Trends initiatives beyond standard trial execution – e.g. soil organic carbon / nature-based carbon measurement work, RCT, or piloting AI-enabled tools for farmer engagement and data collection
  • Flag opportunities where new technology or methodology could improve how trials, demos, or farmer interactions are run
  • Where relevant projects are active, support setup and data collection specific to that project’s requirements (e.g. soil sampling protocols for SOC, or testing new digital/AI tools in the field)

Field Trial & Demo Setup

  • Set up on-farm trials and product demonstrations from scratch – plot layout, planting, and treatment application – according to the design provided by the project lead, ensuring correct plot layout and treatment consistency
  • Identify, recruit, and coordinate with host farmers and sites appropriate to each trial’s criteria – including recruiting large numbers of participating farmers where a trial or demo requires scale
  • Monitor active plots/demos on a regular schedule throughout the full season – from planting through to harvest – flagging deviations, damage, or farmer practices that could compromise results
  • Coordinate stocking and availability of trial products/inputs with local distributors and agrovets so trial and demo sites are never held up waiting on supply

Multi-County Travel & Logistics

  • Work across whichever counties have active projects at a given time – currently a mix of Kirinyaga, Nakuru, Nyandarua, and Kakamega – rather than a single fixed county
  • Plan travel and site-visit schedules in advance to cover multiple counties efficiently within an agreed per diem and travel budget
  • Coordinate directly with field officers, farmers, interviewers, and county agricultural contacts to keep site visits on schedule
  • Handle office-related admin (expense retirement, logistics booking) as needed to keep field activity moving

Data Collection & Reporting

  • Record trial/demo observations, farmer feedback, and plot status in a consistent, structured format after each visit
  • Maintain accurate spreadsheet logs of plot-level and trial-level data across all active sites
  • Summarise field findings and flag issues in a written form the Emerging Trends team can act on without visiting the site themselves
  • Bring an analytical, strategic lens to reporting – synthesising data across sites into clear, structured reports that surface trends and inform decisions, not just log raw observations
  • Interpret and communicate analytical findings clearly, using data to draw evidence-based conclusions, identify potential drivers of results, and highlight implications or recommendations for the wider project team

Stakeholder relationships

  • Maintain working relationships with host farmers, county-level agricultural officers, and field partners relevant to each trial
  • Communicate site status and risks proactively to the team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a technical/analytical field (required)
  • Fluency in Swahili and English (required)
  • Prior hands-on experience setting up on-farm trials or product demonstrations with crops/products from scratch, and monitoring them through a full season, from planting to harvest (preferred)
  • Prior experience recruiting large numbers of farmers, e.g. for trials, demos, or programme enrollment (required)
  • Prior experience stocking or managing product availability with distributors/agrovets (preferred)
  • Prior experience participating in RCT’s (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and data management skills, with the ability to work confidently with spreadsheets and datasets, perform complex analysis, identify trends and relationships, troubleshoot data inconsistencies, and translate findings into clear, decision-useful reports (preferred)
  • Willingness and ability to travel to and stay in rural farming areas across multiple counties for extended stretches – location will shift as projects are confirmed (currently a mix of Kirinyaga, Nakuru, Nyandarua, and Kakamega), rather than a fixed twice-a-month schedule to one base
  • Nice to have: prior experience in ag-tech, working with smallholder farmers, on digital/data-driven agricultural pilots, and/or on nature-based/soil carbon projects
  • Comfortable working from email and spreadsheets to log, organise, analyse, and report field data, with a strategic/analytical mindset for spotting trends and putting together clear reports
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple sites/workstreams simultaneously
  • Nice to have: prior experience in ag-tech, working with smallholder farmers, or on digital/data-driven agricultural pilots
