Job description

Project Management Jobs. Human Rights Agenda Jobs. Project Officers coordinating and supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of programmes, requiring a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies or related field with 3+ years experience in programme implementation, in a non-profit human rights environment, on-site role in Lamu.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Coordination and Implementation

  • Coordinate and support the planning, implementa on and monitoring of HURIA programmes and interven ons within the assigned counties, ensuring quality, meliness, achievement of results and compliance with approved plans, budgets and organiza onal policies.

Human Rights Monitoring, Community Engagement and Citizen Agency

  • Monitor emerging human rights, governance, justice, peace and security issues; engage communi es and grassroots actors; document violations, grievances and accountability gaps; and strengthen citizen par cipa on and agency, particularly among youth and marginalised groups.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

  • Build and maintain effec ve rela onships with county and na onal government ins tu ons, cons tu onal commissions, independent offices, security and jus ce actors, civil society, community organiza ons, academia and other stakeholders, and represent HURIA in relevant coordina on and policy forums.

Research, Evidence, Advocacy and Learning

  • Contribute to research, assessments, data collection, documentation and analysis; generate evidence on community and ins tu onal issues; and support HURIA’s advocacy, policy engagement, knowledge management and organisational learning.

Monitoring, Repor ng and Results Documenta on

  • Track programme progress and results, maintain accurate programme records, work with the MEAL func on to ensure quality data, and prepare mely reports, case studies, success stories, briefs and other programme documenta on for management and partners.

Peace, Security, Accountability and Organisational Development

  • Support HURIA’s work on peacebuilding, social cohesion, community resilience, community policing, police accountability, access to justice and inclusive governance, while contribu ng to programme development, partnerships, resource mobilisa on and other organisa onal priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Human Rights, Law, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Community Development, International Relations, Public Administration or a related discipline.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience in programme implementation, human rights, governance, peacebuilding, community development, advocacy, justice or related work, preferably 
  • within the NGO/development sector.
  • Demonstrated experience working with communities, civil society organizations, government institutions and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in facilita ng community dialogues, trainings, stakeholder forums and par cipatory processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyse and document programme and community-level information.
  • Strong report-writing, documenta on, communica on, facilita on and stakeholder-engagement skills.
  • Understanding of human rights, cons tu onal governance, accountability, access to justice, peace and security, civic participation and community resilience.
  • Ability to work independently, manage mul ple priori es and deliver results within ght melines.
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili. Knowledge of relevant local languages within the assigned counties will be an added advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the assigned two-county cluster and undertake field-based work.
