The Key Purpose of this role is to perform mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and inspection of plant and process equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production facilities. The Mechanical Process Artisan is responsible for maintaining equipment availability, minimizing downtime, and adhering to safety and quality standards.

### Key Roles and Responsibilities

Preventive and Corrective Maintenance

- Carry out planned preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems

- Diagnose mechanical faults and perform corrective repairs on plant equipment

- Inspect machinery and identify potential defects before failure occurs

- Replace worn or damaged components in accordance with maintenance procedures

- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports

Equipment Installation and Repair

- Install, align, and commission mechanical equipment

- Repair pumps, compressors, conveyors, gearboxes, valves, piping systems, and other process plant machinery

- Perform equipment overhauls and rebuilds as required

- Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications and company standards

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

- Investigate equipment breakdowns and determine root causes

- Recommend and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring failures

- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing equipment reliability

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ)

- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and statutory regulations

- Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety inspections

- Maintain good housekeeping standards in workshops and plant areas

- Ensure that work permits, lockout/tagout procedures, and safety precautions are followed

Planning and Reporting

- Complete job cards, maintenance reports, and inspection checklists

- Report equipment defects, maintenance requirements, and safety concerns to supervisors

- Assist in developing maintenance schedules and spare parts requirements

Teamwork and Communication

- Work closely with operations personnel to minimize production interruptions

- Support apprentices and trainees through knowledge sharing and coaching

- Participate in maintenance meetings and improvement projects

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Equipment availability and reliability

- Compliance with preventive maintenance schedules

- Reduction in equipment downtime

- Quality of maintenance work performed

- Safety compliance and incident-free performance

- Timely completion of assigned work orders

- Maintenance cost control and efficient use of resources

Working Conditions

- Work may be performed in workshops, processing plants, mining operations, or utility facilities

- May require shift work, standby duties, and emergency callouts

- Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and moving machinery

- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory

### Minimum Requirements

-  Certificate/Advanced Certificate in Mechanical Engineering

- Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent

- Minimum 3 years’ experience in industrial, manufacturing, mining, processing, or utility plant maintenance

- Experience working on rotating and stationary equipment

- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is an added advantage
