Job description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Medical Director, the Medical Officer will be responsible for delivering evidence-based, patient-centred outpatient care while supporting specialist consultants and the wider multidisciplinary clinical team.

The role involves managing routine acute and chronic conditions, identifying and escalating complex cases, stabilizing urgent cases before referral, maintaining accurate electronic health records, and supporting smooth patient flow across operational shifts.

Please note that Lets Heal Today is an outpatient-based healthcare provider and does not offer inpatient admission, emergency department services, or critical care management. In urgent or potentially life-threatening situations, clinicians provide initial assessment and stabilization before immediate referral to a higher-level facility.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Outpatient Clinical Care & Patient Management

  • Conduct professional outpatient consultations, initial assessments, and follow-up reviews.
  • Document detailed medical histories, perform physical examinations, and diagnose common acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Initiate evidence-based treatment plans in line with national guidelines and escalate complex cases to consultants where necessary.
  • Perform minor clinical procedures safely within the approved professional scope of practice.
  • Provide clear and empathetic patient counselling on diagnoses, treatment options, cost implications, follow-up care, and long-term continuity of care.

Emergency, Urgent Care & Stabilisation

  • Assess and manage walk-in urgent cases through rapid triage and professional risk mitigation.
  • Provide initial stabilization for critical emergency patients before coordinating external transfers or tertiary escalations.
  • Recognize clinical red flags early and escalate critical developments to senior clinicians or emergency response services.

Clinical Coordination & Operational Flow

  • Request, review, and interpret appropriate laboratory investigations and radiological imaging.
  • Coordinate with consultants, nursing teams, pharmacy services, and laboratory teams to implement integrated care plans.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care discussions to support patient throughput and reduce waiting times.
  • Support clinic administration teams through efficient use of consultation rooms and tracking of clinic time slots.

Governance, Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic patient records within the EHR system, including diagnoses, procedures, prescriptions, and clinical notes.
  • Adhere to institutional standard operating procedures, infection prevention and control protocols, and safety standards.
  • Participate in clinical audits, continuous medical education forums, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Log and report clinical incidents, adverse events, or near-misses in line with healthcare risk management policies.
  • Support proper documentation for compliant insurance claims and billing processes.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality, data protection, professional ethics, and medical integrity.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent medical degree from an institution recognized by the Government.
  • Valid and current registration and active practicing license with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Minimum 1–3 years’ post-internship clinical experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in busy outpatient or emergency care settings is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Electronic Health Records platforms and computerized clinical ordering systems.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical judgement, diagnostic reasoning, emergency stabilization, and medical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with nurses, laboratory technologists, specialist consultants, pharmacy teams, and administrative staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient counselling skills.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced, high-volume outpatient environment.
  • Basic familiarity with medical coding, insurance limits, and documentation requirements for claims processing.
  • High standards of professional integrity, clinical accountability, confidentiality, and data protection.
