Jackson Engineering Ltd (HEJ) is one of the leading providers of engineering solutions in Malawi, serving sectors including mining, energy, agriculture, construction and manufacturing.JOB PURPOSEThe Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting construction machinery, heavy-duty vehicles, trucks and other company equipment. The role ensures that plant and equipment remain safe, reliable and operational to support construction activities.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Inspect machinery, vehicles and equipment to identify mechanical faults and defects.• Conduct routine servicing and preventive maintenance.• Diagnose and repair mechanical problems in construction equipment, trucks, vehicles, generators and machinery.• Repair or replace worn or damaged engines, transmissions, brakes, clutches, suspension systems, bearings, belts, hoses and hydraulic components.• Carry out engine tune-ups, oil changes, filter replacement and lubrication.• Conduct mechanical inspections before and after equipment deployment.• Respond to equipment breakdowns at construction sites.• Test repaired equipment to ensure it is safe and operational before returning it to service.• Maintain and repair excavators, wheel loaders, bulldozers, graders, rollers, forklifts, compressors, concrete mixers and similar machinery.• Maintain company trucks, pickups, trailers and other fleet vehicles.• Identify recurring mechanical problems and recommend corrective action.• Work with equipment operators to identify and resolve machinery-related problems.• Maintain accurate records of servicing, repairs, breakdowns, parts used and equipment history.• Attend to emergency breakdowns at construction sites when required.• Carry out fault diagnosis and repairs to minimize equipment downtime.• Keep the workshop clean, safe and properly organized.• Maintain an inventory of tools, spare parts, lubricants and workshop materials.• Report major mechanical faults and recommend appropriate action.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.• Diploma in Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Plant Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Automotive Engineering or a related field.• Relevant trade certification is an advantage.• Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in construction, mining, transport, agriculture or heavy equipment industries.• Experience with heavy construction machinery and diesel engines is highly desirable.• Experience with hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems and vehicle diagnostic equipment is an advantage.• Valid driver's licence is an advantage and may be required.TECHNICAL SKILLSKnowledge and practical experience in:• Diesel and petrol engines.• Heavy-duty vehicles and construction machinery.• Hydraulic systems.• Transmission and clutch systems.• Braking and suspension systems.• Electrical and starting/charging systems.• Preventive maintenance.• Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.• Mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment.• Welding and fabrication is an advantage.• Reading equipment manuals and technical specifications.HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIESThe successful candidate must:• Follow company health and safety procedures.• Wear appropriate PPE.• Safely isolate and immobilize machinery before repairs.• Use lifting equipment, jacks, stands and workshop equipment safely.• Handle fuel, oils, lubricants and batteries safely.• Report hazards, unsafe equipment, accidents and incidents immediately.• Maintain good housekeeping.• Follow environmental procedures for handling used oil, filters, batteries and other waste.HOW TO APPLYInterested candidates who meet the above requirements should send their applications together with certified copies of certificates and CVs to:Email: hr@hejackson.comPostal Address:The Head of Human ResourceH.E.
