Job description
Job Objective
- To provide Human Resource strategic and operational leadership in ensuring the University attracts, develops, engages and retains a highly qualified and productive academic and research staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Workforce Planning & Staffing: Develop and monitor workforce plans, staffing structures, workload, staff-student ratios, FTE/PTE ratios, recruitment, deployment and succession planning for academic and research staff.
- Employee Wellness, HR Transformation & Policy: Develop wellness and inclusion programmes, support HR digital transformation, and contribute to the development, review and implementation of HR policies.
- HR Analytics, Records & Compliance: Use HR analytics for evidence-based decisions; maintain accurate staff, qualification and research records; and ensure compliance with legal, institutional, accreditation and quality-assurance requirements.
- Staff Administration & Lifecycle Management: Oversee contracting, payroll, onboarding, induction, leave management, employee records and other HR processes for academic and research staff.
- HR Advisory & Employee Relations: Advise Deans of Schools and Heads of Department on HR matters, manage grievances and complaints, facilitate conflict resolution, and coordinate disciplinary processes.
- Performance, Retention & Reward: Drive performance management, retention of high-performing and critical staff, recognition and reward initiatives, and staff engagement.
- Talent Management & Staff Development: Manage career progression, promotion, professional development, training needs, PhD and research support, staff profiling, and succession planning.
- Budgeting & Strategic HR Support: Participate in HR budgeting and resource allocation, align HR initiatives with the University Strategic Plan, and provide strategic HR support to the Academic and Research Division.
Qualification and experience
- A PhD in Human Resource Management or a related field.
- Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP)
- At least 8 years of relevant experience with at least 5 years in a supervisory role; experience in a University setting will be an added advantage.
- Understanding of labour laws and HR best practices.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and HR systems.
