Key Account Manager – Advertising owning a revenue target for a portfolio of brand accounts and running the full sales cycle from prospecting to campaign execution and retention, requiring 4+ years in digital advertising or media sales, a track record of hitting revenue targets and hands-on experience building multi-channel media plans, in an e-commerce and retail media environment, on-site role.
Key Responsibilities
- Own a revenue target for a portfolio of brand accounts, and build the hunting list and pipeline to hit it.
- Run the full sales cycle: Prospect → Qualify → Pitch/Proposal → Negotiation → Closing → Campaign launch/execution → Upsell & Retention
- Build the media strategy for your accounts —Define campaign objectives, develop multi-channel media plans, recommend relevant ad formats and placements, and allocate budgets against the JAS rate card to deliver effective and commercially viable solutions.
- Negotiate and defend commercial terms, including rate, package structure and annual joint business plans (JBPs).
- Convert one-off campaigns into recurring investment through performance reviews, insight and proactive upsell.
- Act as the main commercial point of contact for your brands and for the internal KAM teams across categories.
- Work with Ad Ops, design, data and commercial teams to deliver campaigns and KPIs.
- Log all pitches and opportunities in Retool and keep pipeline status current.
- Report on performance to brands monthly, with recommendations — not just numbers.
What you’ll need
Essential
- 4+ years in digital advertising or media sales, at a media agency, ad network, publisher, broadcaster, retail media platform, telco commercial team or brand side.
- A track record of personally carrying and hitting a revenue or billings target. We will ask you for the numbers.
- Demonstrable experience closing media deals with brand-side clients — negotiating rate, handling procurement, and getting an IO signed.
- Hands-on experience building and presenting media plans across display, performance, retail media and social, with a solid grasp of campaign KPIs and budget management.
- Comfort with data — dashboards, campaign reporting, large datasets — and the ability to turn performance data into a commercial argument.
- Strong client management skills, coordinating multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Preferred
- Existing relationships with brands and media agencies in the Kenyan market, and familiarity with the local media planning and budget calendar.
- Experience in retail media or e-commerce advertising specifically.
- Degree in Marketing, Business, Advertising or a related field. Relevant sales experience and a credible track record matter more than the qualification.
