Job Purpose

The job holder is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and improving software solutions, ensuring code quality, system performance and reliability. The role also supports the ICT Department in achieving its objectives through effective collaboration, user support and training, while promoting secure and best-practice use of technology.

Key Responsibilities

System Development

• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to coding, testing and deployment.
• Develop secure, reliable and high-performing software using industry-standard practices.
• Conduct testing to identify and resolve defects before deployment.
• Collaborate with UI/UX teams to develop user-friendly solutions aligned with business needs.
• Design scalable systems that support business growth and increased user demand.
• Incorporate iterative testing and user feedback to continuously improve system functionality and performance.

System Maintenance and Project Support

• Maintain, update and enhance existing systems to ensure security, functionality and alignment with organisational needs.
• Troubleshoot system issues, bugs and errors, and implement patches and upgrades.
• Monitor and optimise system and database performance to improve efficiency and responsiveness.
• Proactively identify and resolve potential issues to minimise downtime and ensure system reliability.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of ICT systems and projects.
• User Support
• Implement system features that improve usability and user experience.
• Train employees on effective use of ICT systems and applications.
• Collaborate with relevant teams and stakeholders to ensure effective system implementation and support.
• Communicate project progress, issues and timelines clearly to stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot and resolve user and system-related challenges.
• Collect and incorporate user feedback to continuously improve system functionality and user experience.

Innovation and Continuous improvement

• Stay updated on emerging technologies, frameworks and tools to improve system development and product offerings.
• Conduct feasibility studies and develop prototypes for new features and solutions.
• Contribute ideas and feedback to improve development processes, tools and team workflows.
• Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and efficiency.
• Engage the Senior Developer for coaching, guidance and mentorship.

Documentation and Knowledge Management

• Develop and maintain technical documentation covering system architecture, design and development.
• Prepare user manuals and guides to support effective use of systems and applications.
• Keep documentation updated as systems and processes evolve.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing to support effective system maintenance and continuity.
• Perform other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field.
• Proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, React and database management. Knowledge of software development, testing and debugging.
• Additional training/certification in Software Development/Programming is an added advantage.
• 1–2 years’ experience in software development or a related field.
