Intermediate AI Engineer

Job description

We are looking for an Intermediate AI Engineer to join our IDEA (Insights, Data & Enterprise Analytics) team and contribute to the development of innovative, production-grade AI solutions across voice and digital channels. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to build hands-on experience in Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), chatbots, voice bots, NLP/NLU, and AI automation within an enterprise environment.  Responsibilities: Assist in developing Generative AI and LLM-based solutions.Support the development of AI voice bots, chatbots, and conversational AI.Develop and integrate NLP/NLU, STT, and TTS capabilities.Assist with prompt engineering, RAG, LLM orchestration, and AI workflows.Develop and integrate AI solutions using Python, APIs, and cloud technologies.Support testing, deployment, monitoring, and optimisation of AI solutions.Work with data and technology teams to prepare and integrate data for AI applications.Assist in investigating AI performance, data, and integration issues.Explore emerging African-language AI and speech technologies.Contribute to technical documentation, development standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.Qualifications and experience: Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.4+ years' experience in software development, AI, machine learning, data science, or a related field.Strong programming fundamentals and practical experience with Python.Exposure to JavaScript or TypeScript is advantageous.Java experience would be an advantage.Basic understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, NLP, machine learning, or conversational AI.Exposure to APIs, cloud platforms, Git, databases, or software development practices.Academic, personal, internship, or project experience involving AI/ML or software development will be considered.A genuine interest in emerging AI technologies and their practical application.The reference number for this position is NG61520 which is a permanent, Hybrid role in Sandton, Johannesburg offering a salary of up to R700k per annum salary negotiable based on experience.
