Job Summary
The successful candidate will report to the Dean, School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The incumbent will be expected to teach Medicinal Chemistry and related subjects, including Drug Design, Structure-Activity Relationships, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, and Computational Drug Discovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and assess Pharmaceutical chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry courses to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students within the School of Pharmacy and related programs.
- Deliver laboratory and practical sessions in synthetic medicinal chemistry, drug design, and analytical characterization.
- Develop and update course materials, laboratory manuals, and digital learning resources.
- Participate in curriculum development, academic program review, and accreditation processes.
- Conduct and publish research in medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, drug discovery, or related fields.
- Secure research funding and engage in collaborative research initiatives.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects.
- Mentor students in academic, professional, and research development.
- Participate in School and University committees, outreach activities, and professional service.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- B. Pharmacy, BSc in Pharmacy, or related discipline from a recognized/accredited institution.
- M. Pharmacy /Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related field from a recognized/accredited university.
- A PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline will be a distinct advantage.
- At least three (3) years of university teaching experience in Medicinal Chemistry or related areas.
- Evidence of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable (e.g., Pharmacy and Poisons Board).
- Candidates with a Master’s degree should demonstrate commitment to pursuing a PhD.
