Job description
This position is responsible for legal advisory, regulatory affairs, public policy and advocacy, corporate governance, company secretarial, enterprise risk management, ethics and compliance services. It serves Kenya, the East Africa Region and Emerging Markets.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chair of the Board and Managing Director you will be responsible for
- Providing strategic, commercially sound legal advice to the Organization.
- Company secretarial services.
- Supporting key business initiatives, including market expansion, dealer network growth, leasing models, partnerships, regional growth and operational transformation.
- Leading engagements with trade and industry bodies on public policy, government relations and regulatory affairs.
- Driving local and regional advocacy on market access, vehicle standards, trade, taxation and customs regulations.
- Board governance and maintenance of statutory records and instruments.
- Strengthening legal, compliance, enterprise risk management, ethics and internal governance frameworks.
- Managing disputes resolution and external counsel services.
- Providing leadership for strategic agreements, dealer contracts, commercial arrangements, financing, partnerships and new business models.
- Guiding education and awareness programs on ESG, sustainability, Insurance, data protection, cybersecurity, AI, digital transformation and other emerging regulatory matters.
- Leading and developing the legal and governance function to deliver business value, service excellence, cost management and trusted executive support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB – Upper Second Class Honours) degree.
- KCSE Mean Grade B+.
- Certified secretary (CS) and Advocate of the High court of Kenya with current practicing certificates and licences.
- Member in good standing of the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya (ICS) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
- Twelve years’ relevant working experience, including substantial experience at senior management level.
- A master’s degree and relevant professional certifications in governance, compliance or risk management and Fellowship Awards will be an added advantage.
