Basic Salary Scale: Kshs. 165,700

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities entail
Coordinating development, implementation and reviewof policies and procedures pertaining to legal matters;
Providing advice on all legal matters that affect the academy and its operations;
Interpreting legal issues and ensuring compliance of the academy to statutory requirements;
Coordinating drafting contracts, leases, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and other legal documents on behalf of the Academy;
Representing the Academy in litigation and other legal matters in court;
Liaising with the Office of the Attorney General and external lawyers on legal matters pertaining to the Academy;
Coordinating maintenance of up-to-date case registers and files pertaining to the Academy;
Ensuring timely review and preparation of case files for hearing;
Initiating required legislation amendments for the promotion of the Academy’s activities;
Spearheading legal research on legal matters pertaining to the Academy and emerging trends;
Ensuring legal status of all the Academy’s assets, liabilities and claims are up to date;
Ensuring maintenance of an up-to-date register of conflicts of interest
Required Qualification
For appointment to this grade, a staff must have
- Cumulative Service period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Assistant Director, Legal Services;
Bachelor’s degree in Laws (LLB) from a recognized institution;
Post Graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law;
Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
Master’s degree in Laws (LLB) or in a relevant field from a recognized institution;
Be a member of the Law Society of Kenya;
Certificate in Corporate Management/Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
Proficiency in computer application skills; and
Demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results.
