JOB PURPOSE
The Conservancy Manager is the chief operating officer of LUMO Community Wildlife Conservancy, responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the conservancy's conservation, security, tourism, community, and commercial operations. The role provides strategic and operational leadership, ensures sound financial and administrative management, and serves as the principal link between the Board of Trustees, staff, member community, and external partners.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide overall leadership and day-to-day management of LUMO's operations, staff, and resources, in line with the strategic direction set by the Board of Trustees.
Oversee conservation and wildlife security operations, including anti-poaching efforts, ecological monitoring, and habitat management, in coordination with rangers and technical staff.
Manage the conservancy's tourism and hospitality operations, including guest services, bookings, and partnerships with tour operators and lodges.
Oversee financial management of the conservancy, including budgeting, expenditure control, revenue collection, and reporting, in line with LUMO's financial and travel policies.
Supervise, appraise, and develop conservancy staff across departments, ensuring compliance with the LUMO Human Resource Policy and Procedures.
Lead community engagement and outreach, maintaining strong relationships with the member community, neighboring landowners, and local administration.
Oversee any business enterprises operated by the conservancy ensuring sound business management.
Ensure compliance with all applicable Kenyan laws, regulations, and county requirements relevant to conservancy operations.
Prepare and present regular operational, financial, and conservation reports to the Board of Trustees.
Represent LUMO before donors, government agencies, conservation partners, and other external stakeholders.
Manage risk, safety, and emergency response across the conservancy, including security incidents and human wildlife conflict.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Trustees from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree in Conservation, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Management, Environmental Management, Business Administration, Development Studies, Tourism Management or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in conservation, community development, tourism, natural resource management or management of a comparable organization.
Experience in financial and operational management.
Demonstrated experience in partnership development, fundraising and resource mobilization.
Experience working with communities, government institutions, development partners and conservation stakeholders.
Strong understanding of governance, organizational management and institutional development.
Experience managing and developing teams.

Sound financial and business management acumen.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
High level of integrity, accountability, and sound judgement.
Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies and security incidents.
