Miale Solar Solutions is strengthening its engineering function to support the development and delivery of high-quality commercial and industrial solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. We are recruiting a Civil & Structural Technician to provide technical insight across the civil and structural aspects of solar PV and BESS projects, from site assessment and design review through construction, commissioning and handover.
The role will be responsible for reviewing and coordinating civil and structural designs, foundations, earthworks, drainage, access roads, equipment pads, mounting structures and other balance-of-plant infrastructure associated with solar PV and BESS installations. The Technician will work closely with project, electrical, procurement, contractors, consultants and clients to ensure that designs are practical, compliant, constructible and delivered to the required quality, cost and schedule.
The role combines engineering design and review with project-site oversight. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with geotechnical information, structural calculations, drawings, contractors and site teams, while maintaining strong QA/QC, HSE and technical documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities
Site Assessment & Preparation
- Participate in site surveys and inspections and collect required measurements and site information.
- Assist with setting out, taking levels, measurements and marking locations for foundations, equipment, structures and other site works.
- Support preparation of work areas and ensure required tools, materials and equipment are available for assigned activities.
Civil & Structural Works
- Carry out and support excavation, grading, compaction, drainage, trenches, fencing, equipment pads and other civil works as assigned.
- Support reinforcement, formwork, concreting, foundation construction and structural steel works.
- Assist with installation of PV mounting structures, equipment supports, BESS foundations and associated structures.
- Work from approved drawings, layouts, method statements and site instructions.
- Verify basic dimensions, alignment, levels and positioning against approved drawings and report discrepancies.
Solar PV & BESS Project Support
- Provide hands-on support during installation and construction activities for solar PV and BESS projects.
- Assist project teams with equipment positioning, mounting, structural supports and other balance-of-plant activities within the Technician’s scope.
- Support testing, commissioning, snagging and handover activities as directed by the Engineer or Project Manager.
- Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance activities for installed project assets where required.
Quality, Inspection & HSE
- Carry out basic quality checks on workmanship and materials and report defects or deviations to the responsible Engineer.
- Use inspection checklists and maintain accurate records of completed works, measurements, tests and observations.
- Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, defective work, non-conformances or deviations from approved drawings and instructions.
- Follow Miale’s HSE requirements, site procedures, toolbox talks, PPE requirements and safe work practices at all times.
Tools, Materials & Site Records
- Use tools, equipment and measuring instruments correctly and maintain them in good working condition.
- Support proper receipt, handling, use and storage of project materials and equipment.
- Maintain daily site records, photographs, measurements, checklists, material usage and work progress.
- Report material shortages, damaged tools/equipment and other site requirements to the responsible supervisor or Engineer.
Teamwork & Escalation
- Work closely with Engineers, Project Managers, electricians, contractors and other site personnel to complete assigned activities within project timelines.
- Carry out assigned tasks independently within the Technician’s scope and seek clarification where instructions are unclear.
- Escalate technical, design, quality, programme or safety issues that are beyond the Technician’s authority or competence.
- Support other project activities as reasonably assigned in line with the Technician’s skills and project requirements.
Documentation & Handover
- Support preparation and completion of site checklists, inspection records, snag lists and other project documentation.
- Assist with rectification and close-out of outstanding works.
- Support collection of as-built measurements and site information for project completion documentation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- 2–3 years of practical experience in construction, solar PV, BESS, electrical/mechanical installation or a related technical environment.
- Hands-on experience in construction, installation, measurements, inspections or maintenance activities.
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings, layouts and site instructions.
- Basic understanding of construction quality and health and safety requirements.
- Experience working on solar PV, BESS, power, industrial or infrastructure projects is an added advantage.
